JAVANA MUNDY is an actor, Writer, Artist, & producer LIVING IN BROOKLYN, NY.

I started to develop my art, my gift of poetry and oratory skills, and my love of music in grade school. All these moments informed my work as a young storyteller and led me to this point. However, when I decided to become an Actor I had already finished grade school, graduated from undergrad at Fordham University, and was well on my way towards a successful career in Fashion. New York City opened my eyes to the possibility of using performance as a platform to develop myself artistically and collaboratively where fashion at the time did not. After working for five years I abandoned my career in Fashion and decided if I am accepted into one of the top ten schools for theater I will pursue it head on. I was auditioned and hand selected by beloved acting coach and professor Elizabeth Kemp at The Actor’s Studio Drama School at Pace University and my mind was made up. That decision changed my life forever.

I am now an Actor, Writer, Producer, Educator, and Interdisciplinary artist from Brooklyn, NY by way of Atlanta, GA. I graduated with my MFA from the Actors Studio Drama School in 2015. My love for new works in theater have garnered me roles in Off - Broadway productions at Dixon Place with “The Penalty”, Signature Theater with “Invincible Ones”, The Tank with “Whiteness”, and Labyrinth Theater with “Queen Latina and her Power Posse” to name a few. My favorite credits include Fires in the Mirror (Multiple Roles), Still Birth (Memrie), and my solo show Mama’s 19 (Multiple Roles).

After graduation I cultivated an interest in production and creative writing because I noticed there was a small percentage of women of color in the performing and entertainment industry really developing and creating our stories. I decided to launch my first filmed series titled The Passed Down Project in 2016 highlighting emerging and established writers, actors, and directors. There I learned how to manage and produce my own projects on a small scale. Since then, I have freelanced for 220th Street Productions, YháWright Productions, and Rosco Productions as a Producer, Assistant Director, and Production Manager. I have currently launched my Food Series The Culture Kitchn which explores Americana Food Culture through a Black, Native, Asian, East Asian, and Middle Eastern Lens. I also am developing two short series, a feature film, and finishing up my solo show Mama’s 19 with The Blackher The Pen Writer’s Collective for Womxn of Color.

As an actor in film you can find me in the series Sauce as Alyssa - a digital series for BRIC TV and iOneDigital from the Award Winning Producers and Creators of BK Blue Sky on BET’s Digital Network and Emmy Nominated King Ester on Issa Rae’s Color Creative Productions YouTube Channel. Sauce screened as part of the official selection for Digital Episodic Programming for the Seattle International Film Festival, Hip Hop Film Festival, and UrbanWorld Film Festival in 2019. You can also formerly find me in the film Miracle Fruit, in the digital series F’k’d Up and Fabulous (which has recently been selected at The Hip Hop Film Festival” and debuted on Tenoir TV), the award winning Nobody’s Watching, HBO’s Random Act’s of Flyness, and most recently featured as voiceover for the Tulsa Burning series for WNYC radio.

My artistic work is fluid and intersects in my teaching artist practice. I have worked with the S.O.U.L Sisters Leadership Collective whose mission is to mobilize system-involved girls and femmes of color – black, brown, and indigenous – to interrupt cycles of state violence, poverty, and oppression. Educational Advocacy through the arts is at the forefront of my work with young people in underserved black and brown communities. I also utilize different mediums to create art with a message most recently with my Corn and Collards Art Studio.

I dedicate all of my success to my Mother, Brother, Grandmother, Elizabeth Kemp, and to the young people who feel they are forgotten, ignored, and have no voice. I see you, I hear you, and I am not only rooting for you but am actively working to create brave spaces for you to affirm your voice and worth in the storytelling industry.
